You know, I honestly don’t know what the fuck just happened to private trackers! A long time ago, I’ve written an article on the benefits and differences between private and public trackers. In that old article, I’ve written how there are benefits to both, and it’s just about your personality and what you’re comfortable with. But, the tracker culture has changed significantly, and in my opinion, it changed for the absolute worst! Today, the only reason so many of private trackers exist (I think), is because there is a myth that if you’re on a private tracker, you’re safer. Yes, you’re least likely to get a letter using a private tracker, but it’s foolish to think you’re completely safe.
A couple of days ago, I had an aggravating experience with a tracker, that changed my mind once and for all about “which is better, private or public?” Again, I’ve been using torrents for close to 20 years, and private trackers have really become a literal shit show. I understand the fear of using public trackers, but the disrespect and unfairness many of us experience within these private trackers are unacceptable! Then they have the nerve to ask for donation! You can give some of them a $100 donation and they will still ban you for something stupid. I seriously think these trackers must be run by teenagers or adults still in a teenage high school mindset. I don’t mean to say there are no good respectable private trackers out there, but, I think they’re very few.
Speaking for myself, it’s no longer worth the aggravation, breaking your neck getting in to these private trackers. I will keep the truly good & few private trackers I like; and hence forth, I will only deal with public trackers. Now, I understand the compelling argument that private trackers have things that open trackers don’t. However, that seems to be changing too. Many of the new trackers popping up are almost exact replicas of public trackers (in terms of content). Specialty trackers are starting to become a thing of the past. Even porn. Porn used to be a very specialized closed niche area. Now both public and private trackers are adding this category to their sites.
I really, really do appreciate the people who still have the patience for the verbal abuse and bullying that comes from many of these private trackers; and because those people know those issues very well; they absolutely go out of their way to “defy” private tracker rules and share their content on the public trackers; just so that people like me don’t have to deal with their bullshit. Then again, it is also true that many of the newer private trackers are using BOTS to pull in public torrents too. Yeah, it’s a pain dealing with pop up ads, and click bait on the public trackers. But, that’s a small price to pay, to now have a choice NOT to use private trackers anymore. Get a VPN ya’ll!!! Free yourselves.
On public trackers, you are under no obligation to seed, there’s no ratios, you’re not obligated to post, you’re not obligated to follow their naming conventions to the letter, and most importantly you don’t have to deal with an impatient moderator, and or a rude moderator with an itch to abuse power, or a mod who wants to ban you cause you got a difference of opinion; or simply understand things better than they do. That’s why it will be a VERY cold day in hell before I give any money to a private tracker anymore. Be very careful of the private trackers you seek.
